Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata has joined spanish giants Atletico Madrid on an 18-month loan deal.
Morata returns to the club where he started his youth career after completing his medical on Sunday.
Morata’s chances under Maurizio Sarri became more limited when the Italian coach signed Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus for the rest of the season.
The 26-year-old joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in July 2017 for a then club-record fee of £60m on a five-year contract.
He has made 47 Premier League appearances for the Blues, scoring 16 times.
Atletico wrote on their website.”Morata has proven himself as a prolific goalscorer in some of Europe’s most competitive leagues.”
Morata said: “I’m very happy and proud to be here. I can’t wait to start training, meet my new team-mates and play.”
Atletico will play against of Morata’s former clubs next month – with games against Real Madrid in the La Liga on February 9 and a Champions League second round battle with Juventus on February 20.
